The owner of the doomed ferry Kalakala has proposed that the metal from its scrapping be recycled and turned into a "Special Edition" Sedona.

I liked when they were going to make it into a casino. But really it's so rusted it just needs to go.

The boat has had many lives, but it really is time to scrap it. I wish it was feasible to take the structure off of the old hull and make it usable, but not gonna happen.

It really is (was) a beautiful boat with such a history. Problem is the owner is an ass hat.

Well, that's really a shame. I visited it in Seattle back in the late '90s when it had just recently come back to town. The volunteers clearly had a lot of optimism and a lot of good ideas, but obviously no plan as to how they were going to get the money to implement any of them. All things considered, I guess its amazing the ship survived this long under these conditions. With hindsight, they really should have left it beached in Alaska until someone came forward with a well-financed plan to actually do something with it. Towing it to Seattle so it could sit around racking up mooring fees for 15 years was just stupid.
Of course, there wasn't much to really preserve anyway, other than the shell of the superstructure. The machinery and interiors had already been gutted decades ago (save for some balustrades on the stairs and I think one lone upholstered bench). If the goal was just to put a modern casino or something inside the historic shape, they could have accomplished the same thing by building a replica on top of a barge.
